Investigative journalists Andrew Schneider and David McCumber first told the critical public-health story of Libby, Montana and its deadly vermiculite mine in the print book An Air That Kills (2004). Hundreds had died and thousands were sickened locally from inhaling asbestos fibers – and in the years since, the threat continued to grow with Libby’s asbestos lurking in as many as 50 million homes, businesses and schools nationwide.
